This one is for my better half!
He’s been asking for this one for a while, so it’s time I did it…. write about the amazing Husky gas station restaurant. That’s right, Husky!
At a glance: He had to trick me into going for the first time….it’s in a gas station! Does it weird me out that you can have a shower and eat breakfast in the same place? Yes, but the breakfast is great. And their tag line makes me smile: ‘When journeys lead to big appetites.’
When: Wednesday, July 5, 2017 – We stopped for breakfast at the Husky by SaskTel Center on our way out to Radisson. We planned to also eat lunch at the Red Bull gas station restaurant in Radisson (eeeek!) but were too full from breakfast.
What we ate: My other half loves the King of the Road burger (apparently, it’s famous) but he also loves their breakfast…..so he was torn. After many difficult seconds deciding, he went with the triple-decker breakfast club sandwich (omelette-style eggs, ham, bacon, cheese, more cheese, more egg) with a side of shredded hash browns – salt added! My god, does he love the shredded hash browns. I had the standard bacon and eggs (over medium) with whole wheat toast (and a ton of peanut butter) and tomatoes on the side instead of hash browns (which I never eat but think I will).
His shredded hash browns were slightly overdone and my eggs were a little underdone but overall everything was greasy and tasty!
Drinks: Coffee (passable and hot!), water (one water tasted like soap – odd)
Not so great but who really cares: It’s in a gas station.
Honorable mention: The few times I’ve been here, we’ve had incredibly friendly servers (the kind that say sweetie and darlin’), it’s not very busy people-wise, and this time, we were able to grab some waters and snacks on the way out of town. Bonus! He also tells me there’s a 24-hour menu.
I have to mention that my other half was able to get a grape Pop Shoppe pop at the Red Bull gas station, which basically blew his mind – I’ve never seen him so happy!
His Husky rating: 4 out of 5 king of the roads!
Happy bites! Or in this case, mouthfuls!
