Another wonderful evening out for food and wine with my mom!
When: March 23, 2017 – 5:30pm (my mom and I)
At a glance: Cozy restaurant, tucked in between houses in a small building on Early drive (east side of Saskatoon), aged wood floors, old tables, old appliances, dated knick knacks and photos give it a farm or Prairie feel, local ingredients on all menu items, small one page menu, fairly pricey but worth it
What we ate: We started with fried chickpea dip (in the photo – yum but lacked salt) which comes with homemade potato chips and crostinis salt and peppered to perfection. We then shared the pesto and mushroom gnocchi and the pork belly on squash and apple risotto. O.M.G. Both were delicious – flavorful and rich – and cooked to perfection. The pesto was so tasty and the mushrooms were extremely ‘earthy’ tasting, however we didn’t much care for the collard greens on the gnocchi – this is a personal preference – they were cooked well. The (giant piece of) pork belly was seared to perfection and crispy all over – incredibly rich – but that’s how it should be! The risotto had almost a fall feel to it with the squash and apple. All very tasty! I forgot to take photos of these two dishes 😦 – I was so wrapped up in how amazing they were! The serving sizes were perfect for how rich these dishes were.
Drinks: We both had red wine – a Boca Noir and then I had a second glass (not driving again!) – a Pinot Noir – both tasty but didn’t blow our minds.
Honorable mention: cozy setting, the service was great – the waitress and waiter were friendly, helpful, timely, etc.
Not so great but who really cares: the building is small and oddly shaped so there aren’t many tables – luckily we didn’t have the table right across from the bathroom – too close in my mind and unappetizing.

Happy bites!
