The Granary – ‘Elevated’ Meat and Potatoes – ha!

I haven’t been to the Granary in ages! My son picked this restaurant for his 20th birthday family supper. I think he went recently with his girlfriend and loved it. While typically a place older folks go, the food and atmosphere is well worth the trip.

When: Friday, February 12th, 2017 – 5:30pm (me, my significant other, my son and his girlfriend, my mom and dad, and my grandma)

At a glance: Cozy, old fashioned, restaurant on 8th street that resembles a grain elevator, higher-end ‘meat and potatos’ place

What I ate: Appies: Bacon wrapped (large) scallops and salt and pepper dry ribs (shared) – both excellent and cooked well, would recommend both, Main: 6 oz filet mignon (ordered it rare – and it was) with rice pilaf (tasty) and steamed vegetables (asparagus and broccoli – kind of boring, no real flavor but steamed well)

Others ate: Northern pickerel, crab legs, mashed potatoes, mushrooms Neptune (my son said he’s had better elsewhere), Caesar salad, button mushrooms – everyone loved their food and it was all cooked properly

Drinks: Red wine – Merlot from Chile called Torreon de Parades – not bad but fairly run of the mill

Honorable mention: The service was great; our waitress was friendly, on time, helpful, and as an added bonus arranged for my son to be sang to for his birthday by the staff…..and gave him a bowl of ice cream with a sparkler on it (he didn’t look impressed!).
